What is Coronavirus (COVD-19)?
Coronavirus COVD-19 is a new strain in the family of coronaviruses first reported in Wuhan, China on New Year’s Eve 2019. The family of coronaviruses includes illnesses ranging from the common cold to major respiratory illnesses such as MERS and SARS.
Coronaviruses are typically firs transmitted from animals and then become infectious between humans. The original source of COVD-19 is not known but is believed to have come from a food vendor possibly selling exotic animals. There are also other coronaviruses that circulate in animals but have yet to infect humans.
Common signs of a coronavirus infection are symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath and breathing difficulty. In severe cases, and in the case of COVD-19, or in those with weakened respiratory systems and become pneumonia and severe acute respiratory syndrome which can lead to kidney failure and even death.
