Couple Dead in Apparent Murder Suicide

The incident, involving Donnie and Jackie Johnson, both 62, allegedly occurred between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 6:30 p.m. Saturday at their residence on New Bethel Church Road off Highway 136 West in Dawsonville. A friend of the couple discovered their bodies after going to check on them, according to investigators. “It appears the husband shot the wife in the chest with a rifle while she was laying in bed, then shot himself in the chest with the rifle,” said Dawson County Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Wooten. Investigators are unclear about a possible motive. A note was not found at the scene.
