Custodian sues over Suicide Cleanup
Friday May 18, 2007
- Debbie Rothwell is seeking unspecified damages for the infliction of emotional and physical distress from a Suicide Cleanup performed after student Skyler Cullitan brought a gun to school and took his life.
In her complaint filed Tuesday in Spokane County Superior Court, Rothwell claims she was directed to "clean and dump everything." This is often typical of many organizations wanting to quickly and cheaply remedy the aftermath of a death-related incident. Unfortunately, crime and suicide cleanup requires the use of protective equipment, specialized technology, and personnel who are psychologically capable of performing this sort of specialized work. Whether its a crime scene, traumatic incident, unattended death or suicide cleanup that is to be performed it is important to seek a professional service to eliminate the risk to custodial staff who are not trained to deal with the hazards involved.
